Theme Pavilion designed by NCDPD to promote North eastern crafts at the IHGF 2011
A specially designed theme pavilion of North East handicraft was set up by National Centre for Design & Product Development (NCDPD) at the Indian Handicraft & Gifts Fair, Expo Mart at Greater Noida from 15th October to 18th October 2011 to provide a comprehensive market- enabled international platform to the producers, exporters of India handmade crafts from the entire North East Region. There were 30 craftsperson who participated in the Fair from the North-Eastern Region. The basic objective of the theme was to provide thrust and to promote the export of handicraft from this region. The North East handicraft has abundant versatility and great potential to increase its reach in the market. Due to lack of a suitable platform and marketing initiative real potential of the region has not been taped. The theme pavilion during the exhibition provided an opportunity to the craftsmen / artisans, entrepreneurs to interact directly with the overseas buyers. The event also presented an opportunity to overseas buyers to get the products directly from the producers of North Eastern part of the country. The display of the handicraft products at the theme pavilion went a long way in achieving the objective of tapping potential market for J&K handicraft products. The theme pavilion provided a huge business opportunity to the exhibitors. The overseas buyers had the great opportunity to have at one place an assorted display of the products from the region. More than 5000 overseas buyers visited the fair from all over world and there was an impressive amount of enquiries at the fair; making the fair quite a success.
